In the name of Allah, the most Gracious, the most Merciful.

Last month, we have been busy preparing and training for the World Gamelan Festival which was held at Terengganu on 25th till 27th october 2013. Again, for the second time in a year, we went to Terengganu for the same reason, for the same passion, which is Gamelan. But of course, for this time we went there with an intention to learn something new. Fortunately, we got a chance to learn about Gamelan from other countries especially Gamelan from Bali and also from Jawa, the origin of Gamelan. We also got an opportunity to watch and enjoy all Gamelan performances performed by other groups from all over the world which participates. One statement, "they are too awesome!". Well, not much to say, let the pictures speaks the memories.

Taaruf Week has passed. New students had successfully register into our campus. We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all new undergraduate students. And as a 'welcome party', all members of IIUM Gombak Cultural Club had prepare a little surprise for the new students to have some leisure time during the Taaruf. It is a Cultural Night, a night where the members of cultural show some performances to promote their club and have some fun before starting a new semester. Clubs involved are Gamelan, Andeka Caklempong, Acoustic Band, Percussion, Angklung, Zapin, Dikir Barat, Theatre, Nasyeed, CPC and also Poetry.

By combining all instruments (gamelan, angklung, caklempong, band and percussion) , we had play three songs together which are Overture (beginning), Symphony 40 and Santubong (ending). Special thanks to Cikgu Ku Zahir for his willingness to train us those songs. Also, greatest appreciation and thanks to all committees of Ta'aruf Cultural Night, trainers, alumnis, performers, club members and those who have support and contribute either direct or indirectly towards the success of Taaruf Week. It was a great night after all. Love you guys! Love IIUM!

Assalamualaikum peeps. it's been awhile, isn't it? actually, last two months, we were busy preparing for the World Gamelan Competition. The competition was held at Terengganu in two days, started on 20 April. Among 20 groups that registered for the competition, only 13 groups have got the chance to participate. Alhamdulillah, we were one of them.

The competition was the second competition organized by the government of Terengganu in order to create a new dimension to uphold the art of Malay gamelan to a higher level in the various genres of rhythm and new compositions. Each groups need to play two songs which were traditional and creative. As for traditional category, we played Perang Manggong while for the creative category, Cari-cari Cuba Kau Cari was a chosen song. Cari-cari cuba Kau Cari is a song composed by our teacher, known as Cikgu Ku Zahir.

Recruitment, Session 2013

Alhamdulillah. we had finished the recruitment and induction for the new intake of Gamelan Club for this semester. And praise to HIM, everything's went well. Even though the applicants for this year might be not as much as last years but most of them had an experience in playing Gamelan instrument in their former school. As for the recruitment, there were three phases the applicants needed to go through.

First session was the interviewing session. This session was handled by some of the committee who had been chosen. Second session, we taught the applicants how to play and get the beats and melody of the simple songs in the Gamelan tradisional itself. The instrument included were bonang, sarong pekin, sarong baron, gambang, and also gendang.

As for the last session, the applicants needed to have a test from what they have learnt. There were some things that the committee members needed to take a look which were the beats, the rhythm and the melody. Most of the applicants who came at both nights had showed good skills and were able to catch up new knowledge very well.

Thank you for all the applicants and committee members who were willing to spend some time for our recruitment days. Have a nice and barakah life, guys. Till then.. :)

seperti biasa, setiap kali ada intake baru, akan ada satu malam special untuk semua kelab di bwah cultural unit untuk persembahkan dan memperkenalkan kelab masing masing. Cultural Night kali ini bertemakan "PERKAHWINAN".

From 24 January - 31 January , 10 members of Gamelan Club were busy training . We performs to the audiences Marry You by Bruno Mars and Titanium by Sia & David Guetta . Both song composed by our senior Bro Azreen . The third song was Symphony 40 and Puteri Santubong collaboration of Gamelan, Acoustic Band, Caklempong, Percussion and Angklung composed by Cikgu Ku Zahir
